Start with the short form below. It takes about two minutes.
Does any of this sound familiar?
You're not alone. Many homeowners run into these after going solar.
High monthly payments
Payments higher than you expected, or a payment that went up.
Unexpected loan costs
Fees or financing terms nobody explained during the sale.
Savings below what you were told
Your utility bills or savings don't match the sales projection.
System not performing
Production, service, or installer problems, including an installer that's gone.
How it works
Simple steps to understand your situation and what you can do about it.
- 1
Tell us what happened
A short form about your system and your financing. It takes about two minutes.
- 2
Your free consultation
A call of about 20 minutes. We go through how it was sold, what you signed, how it's working and what you pay, and whether our service fits your deal.
- 3
Decide on next steps
If you go ahead, the fee is in writing before you sign. Pay it up front, or apply to pay over time with Hearth or Upstart.
What we look at
On your free consultation we go through three things.
What you owe
- What you financed vs. what the system should cost
- Any dealer fee folded into your balance
- Your rate, term and total cost
- Payment resets, and the paydown they assumed
- What you were promised vs. your real bills
What you signed
- Every signature, initial and date
- The copies you were owed
- The cancellation notice: there, right, explained
- Which language the sale was in
- Any filing on your home, and who holds your loan now
What it produces
- What it makes vs. what you were promised
- Permission to operate and inspections
- Whether monitoring works
- Who still stands behind the warranty
- What a repair would cost
The cheapest fix comes first
Not every solar problem needs a fight with the lender. Here's the order we look at it in.
- 1
Call your loan servicer
FreeAsk for your payoff amount, your payment history, a full copy of your contract, and what it would take to bring the payment back down.
- 2
Fix the system
Often freeIf it's off or underproducing, a warranty claim or a repair may be all you need. If your installer is gone, another one can service it.
- 3
Fix the payment
VariesPaying the loan down can reset the payment to where it started.
- 4
Sell or transfer
VariesSelling? The loan can usually be paid off at closing, and a lease or PPA can often move to the buyer.
- 5
Challenge the deal
Our partnerIf the sale or the paperwork broke the rules, our resolution partner works to cancel the loan, cut the balance, or remove hidden fees and the lien.
What helps to have handy
You don't need any of it to start. Bring what you have to the consultation, and we'll tell you what else is worth getting.
- Loan, lease or PPA agreement
- Installation contract
- Anything the salesperson showed you (proposal, savings estimate)
- Your last 12 months of electric bills, or your annual true-up
- Recent loan statements
- Screenshots from your monitoring app
- Texts and emails with the solar company
- Any notice about a lien or UCC filing
Questions homeowners ask
Does a review guarantee my loan will be cancelled?
No. No one can promise that. Some deals can be cancelled or reduced. Others are legal but overpriced, and a cheaper fix makes more sense. Your free consultation shows you which kind you have.
Is Solar Resolution Advocates a law firm?
No. Solar Resolution Advocates is a brand of Local Utility Services LLC. We are not a law firm and don't give legal advice. If you go ahead, our resolution partner handles your case under its own written agreement with you.
What does it cost?
The form and the consultation are free. If you go ahead, the service fee is in writing before you sign. You can pay it up front or apply to pay over time with Hearth or Upstart. Repairs are quoted separately by an installer.
Should I stop paying while you look?
No. The loan keeps running until it's resolved, and a missed payment brings late fees, a mark on your credit and possibly a collector. If a payment is going to be hard, tell us early.
Do I need my loan documents ready?
No. You can start with what you know. We'll tell you which documents help, and with your written permission the rest can be requested from the lender.
How long does it take?
The consultation takes about 20 minutes. Resolving a loan takes months, and longer if it goes to arbitration.
My installer went out of business. Now what?
Your loan usually stays in place, and the company servicing it may have changed. We find out who holds it now, what warranty still applies, and who can service the system.
Who sees my information?
We use it for your consultation. If you go ahead, we share it with our resolution partner, with your OK. We don't sell it.
I'm not in California. Can you help?
Choose your state on the form. The program is expanding, and we'll let you know if we can help where you live.
